The SanDisk 512GB microSD Express Card for Nintendo Switch 2 is the officially Nintendo-licensed storage expansion card designed, tested, and approved exclusively for use with Nintendo Switch 2. Delivering read speeds up to 880MB/s and write speeds up to 650MB/s — up to 8.8 times faster read and 4.4 times faster write than standard microSD UHS-I cards — it enables instant game downloads, dramatically reduced load times, and sustained 210MB/s write performance for high-resolution gameplay video capture. With 512GB of storage capacity and an actual usable capacity of approximately 456GB after formatting, it provides ample space for a large Nintendo Switch 2 game library. SanDisk ThermAdapt technology uses a specially engineered enclosure and dynamic adaptive thermal management controller to maintain safe operating temperatures during intensive use.

Compatibility Notice: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards. Standard microSD and microSDXC cards used with the original Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED cannot be used with Nintendo Switch 2. This SanDisk microSD Express card is backward compatible with Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED — however, on those older consoles its read/write speed will operate at standard microSD card speeds, not Express speeds.

Key Features

  • >
Officially Nintendo-Licensed — Designed, Tested, and Approved for Nintendo Switch 2:
  • The SanDisk 512GB microSD Express Card carries official Nintendo licensing, meaning it has gone through Nintendo's own testing and approval process to verify performance, reliability, and compatibility with the Switch 2's specific microSD Express interface. This official licensing provides a level of reliability assurance that unlicensed third-party cards cannot offer — confirming the card will behave as expected within the Switch 2 system and will not cause compatibility issues, corrupted saves, or performance inconsistencies during normal use. >
880MB/s Read and 650MB/s Write — Up to 8.8 Times Faster Than Standard microSD UHS-I Cards:
  • Nintendo Switch 2 introduces the microSD Express standard — a fundamentally different interface that routes data through PCIe and NVMe protocols rather than the slower SD bus used by standard microSD cards. The 880MB/s read speed is up to 8.8 times faster and the 650MB/s write speed is up to 4.4 times faster than standard microSD UHS-I memory cards — resulting in dramatically faster game downloads, near-instant level and asset load times, and vastly improved responsiveness when accessing large open-world game data stored on the card. >
512GB Capacity — Space for a Full Nintendo Switch 2 Game Library:
  • With 512GB of raw storage capacity and approximately 456GB of actual usable space after formatting in Nintendo Switch 2, this card provides substantial room for a large collection of Nintendo Switch 2 titles. Modern Nintendo Switch 2 games range from several gigabytes to tens of gigabytes in size — making 512GB a practical choice for players who want to maintain a large installed library without frequently managing storage or deleting and re-downloading games. The 512GB variant offers double the raw capacity of the 256GB model while retaining identical read and write speed performance. >
210MB/s Sustained Write Speed — Reliable High-Resolution Gameplay Video Capture:
  • The 210MB/s minimum sustained write speed determines whether the card can reliably record high-resolution video without dropped frames or recording interruptions. Nintendo Switch 2's enhanced video capture capabilities produce significantly larger data streams than the original Switch — and a card that cannot sustain sufficient write speeds will cause video capture to stutter, buffer, or fail entirely during complex, high-detail scenes. SanDisk specifies 210MB/s as the guaranteed floor of sustained write performance — not just a peak figure — providing consistent throughput that uninterrupted high-resolution gameplay recording demands. >
SanDisk ThermAdapt Technology — Thermal Safety Built Into the Card Itself:
  • microSD Express cards push significantly more electrical current through a physically small component than standard microSD cards — creating greater heat generation that can degrade performance, shorten card lifespan, or cause data corruption if operating temperatures are not managed. SanDisk ThermAdapt technology addresses this with a specially engineered physical enclosure designed to dissipate heat more effectively and an onboard controller that dynamically monitors and adjusts thermal behaviour in real time — protecting both the card's longevity and the game data stored on it during extended high-speed read/write sessions.
